CRAWL SPACE VENTING

It was once thought that crawl space air vents would prevent the crawl space from becoming laden with excessive moisture.

However, this approach actually makes the crawl space extremely susceptible to damaging levels of relative humidity. 

Rather than let moisture out, these vents actually draw moisture into the crawl space as air currents move upward into the house.  This vacuum effect traps the moisture in the crawl space and before long, a whole host of undesirable conditions ensue.

When combined with the moisture continually released into the crawl space from the soil, it is apparent that the relative humidity levels in a crawl space can become extremely high and remain that way for long periods of time, if not indefinitely.

CRAWL SPACE DETERIORATION

Wood rot begins and can lead to the gradual deterioration and collapse of the joists and support beams under the floors of your home. 

Mold and mildew can begin to grow at an alarming rate, and even travel up the wall cavities of your home, leading to considerable property damage.
